Physique Score

This is not a rating where there is a clear winner, though there are some ratings we need to avoid. At boditrax, we have scanned more than eighteen million human bodies and we know they come in all shapes and sizes.
What is important is finding out where we are now and then beginning a journey of change to the best version of us. That is never someone else, just our individual self. Our body composition can change immediately. For example, drink a glass of water now. Well done! You have just improved your water mass and hydration levels.
Remember that change comes from diet and exercise both applied consistently over time. Our muscles burn calories even when we sleep so they are still working when we are not.
An old but sound statement is “you cannot out train a poor diet.” So, do not try. A better body is built in the kitchen as well as the gym.
Try not to focus on absolutes. Most humans would like to change something about their body. The good news is we can change a lot. We have seen it millions of times over almost ten years now.
We all start with the first step - which is understanding the body we have right now. We can then begin our journey of change. Boditrax tracks weight down to 50g so we see results very quickly if we use more energy than we store.

Physique Rating 1: Hidden Obese

Hidden Obese means that the body has a high percentage of fat and a low level of muscle mass. Even though you might look like average from the outside, your fat levels are too high and your muscle too low. This could lead to obesity, which could lead to serious health problems. By eating a healthier diet and starting or increasing your physical activity, you will be able to lower your fat levels.

Physique Rating 2: Obese Warning

Obese is a clinical term. It is not an insult, and it is not meant to hurt or offend. It means that you have a high fat percentage but a standard level of muscle mass. People with an obese physique rating need to be incredibly careful as left unchecked, this will lead to serious health problems. Talk to a medical or fitness professional if the boditrax scanner has identified obesity in you. Obesity is usually highly reversible with diet and exercise.

Physique Rating 3: Solid Build

This means that although you have a high muscle mass level, you also have a high percentage of body fat. Even though you might look big on the outside, you have a lot of muscle mass underneath. Reduce your fat levels and that muscularity will be far more prominent. Make sure you regularly check the ratio of fat to muscle. We lose muscle and gain fat as we age so your weight may remain similar, but your body composition may be changing underneath.

Physique Rating 4: Standard Slim

Under exercised means that you have an average amount of body fat, but also a low muscle mass level. You should start gaining muscle mass by working out regularly and eating a balanced diet that is high in protein with good carbohydrates and healthy fats. Prominent levels of muscle are one of the strongest indicators for long term health outcomes. It is vitally important as we age to ensure mobility and flexibility. As we age, falls are one of the biggest causes of death. Good muscularity helps us avoid falls and protect our body if we do. Falls are the second biggest cause of accidental death after traffic accidents worldwide.

Physique Rating 5: Standard Optimal

A standard body type means that you have a healthy level of both body fat and muscle mass. People with a standard body type can progress quickly toward their goals when they begin exercising. Do not settle for standard though, this is a suitable place to start toward a more optimised you than standard.

Physique Rating 6: Standard Muscular

This means that you have a high muscle mass level and an average fat level. This is a physique rating you can be proud of if you have worked for it and should take care to maintain it as you age. This is the physique rating that many athletes have.

Physique Rating 7: Muscular Warning

A thin rating means that you have a low amount of body fat but also a low muscle mass level. Being too thin could lead to serious health issues. However being a little on the thin side is a good place to start. Low fat levels will mean you will show the benefits of exercise more quickly than those with higher fat levels. Train to add muscle which will lead to far better health outcomes in later life. Take care to adjust your diet to allow for the higher fuel levels the body needs when training.

Physique Rating 8: Slim Muscular

This body type sounds like a contradiction if we imagine a thin person and a muscular person. It sounds similar to ‘skinny fat.’ It means that you have a low amount of body fat and a standard level of muscle mass, so it is a little misleading.

Physique Rating 9: Very Muscular

Very muscular people have a prominent level of muscle mass and a low level of body fat. This is quite a rare body type to have naturally so it often reflects somebody who works hard at building lean muscle mass and keeping fat mass levels low. They are likely to work out regularly and eat a very balanced diet that is high in protein. Alternatively, they may have a very physically demanding job or be a semi, or professional athlete.
